Engagement portrait sessions are absolutely the best way for you to build a relationship with your photographer. It’s also a great way to get used to being told to make out for the camera, which can be a bit weird if you’ve never had portraits taken before. Basically, the engagement session before your wedding is a great idea all ‘round.
My approach to engagement sessions is much the same as my approach to photography in general: laid-back, natural photojournalism combined with creative portraiture. Many of my couples are super-nervous about their session beforehand and end up being so comfortable with the camera after a short period and are always amazed out how natural and happy they look in their photos afterwards.
All my Wedding Story Collections include an engagement portrait session as a gift from me and precursor to your wedding photography experience. I think they’re so much fun, prepare you for your wedding photography experience and they’re also a great opportunity to get some beautiful, more casual portraits for years to come.
If you like something a bit more creative, I absolutely love doing styled engagement and portrait sessions. I’m up for anything from gorgeous picnic-themed sessions to kisses in the Ferris Wheel at Luna Park. If you can think it up, I’m happy to shoot it!
